some new kind of kick

Woah, I’m here! Here I am!

Well, now that the year is officially halfway over, thought I would check in to see how some of my plans for the year are coming along…
- start learning American Sign Language ~ Nope. Still haven’t found a program that I like or that is within reasonable transit distance from my home.
- make a design plan for renovating my bathroom ~ No. Still totally blank on this one. Last time I checked, Lief and I planned to take this on next summer. The bathroom is ugly, but functional, for now.
- find a new ‘home’ pool and gym (goodbye cameron rec centre and city centre aquatic centre ::sniffle::) ~ Yes and no. Definitely found a new home gym (within 5 minutues walking distance from my apt). Still haven’t walked to Canada Games to see how long it takes to get there. Should also check to make sure there is an adults-only time.
- decide on education plan (masters? tech training? eeep!) ~ Yep…kinda. Miikey is going to help me find a weight training/ fitness theory course to take to get me on the road to being a personal trainer. Hoping to specialize in working with people who have mobility issues.
- see mike and christina get married in hawaii ~ Nooooo! Was way out of financial possibility to go. Thankfully, they had a reception when they got back.
- take a class in vegetarian indian cooking ~ Oh yes! Was it fun? Yes! Would I do it again? No. I would not take a class with the lady that taught the veg indian cooking class, but I am open to other options. Haven’t cooked a single indian dish since the classes.
- go cross country skiing ~ Um, still no. I *do* have plans for snow shoeing this winter though. I hope that counts for something.
- start my BCRPA certification ~ Almost. Please see education plan above.
- launch my button pressing company ~ Woah, also no. There are altogether too many ‘nos’ here. Guess I should get my butt in gear. Come to think of it, I haven’t even been doing that many button jobs lately… mainly just making them for myself and friends.
- buy an additional button press (either 1 + 1/4 or 1 + 1/2 inch diameter buttons) ~ Nope. This will be part of that whole nebulous ‘launch my button pressing company’ plan.
- max out my RRSP contributions (oh yeah!) ~ Done and done!
- have fun with the new book club ~ Oh yes! We are currently reading (and by ‘currently reading’, I mean: I need to read it by Sunday) Heart of Darkness. We will also be watching Apocolypse Now at the book club meeting. Fun *and* creepy. THE HORROR!
- get more sleep ~ Not so much. Maybe this will change when the people upstairs are finally evicted (3 weeks and counting) and/ or Miss Missyfuss finally shuts the fuck up.
- learn more about public policy on the issues of both literacy and dis/ability in BC/ Canada ~ No. Not even close.
- sew some retro-inspired change purse thingies ~ Yeah, yeah yeah! I have made about 7 – 8 of them. So far, the proud owners are Andrea, Christina, and Katie. The rest of y’alls will have to wait for X-mas.
- knit the hells out of some things... and remember to actually document it ~ The knitting continues. The documenting never started.
- remember how much i love my rocky mountain and actually take it out of its resting place at least once this year ~ So far, the pink Rocky is still living at my mom’s place. Boooo!
- learn things about wine from sarah and jules ~ If by ‘learn things’, I mean: call them from the booze store every time I have an alcohol emergency - - - then mission accomplished.
- aquafit! shallow and deep water... bring it on! ~ Not at all. Not even once.
- make concrete plans for visiting iceland ~ I concretely found that I can get there for much cheaper than I thought, and realized that saving a couple hundred dollars each month for that epic of a journey is going to have to wait until early 2008.

The moral of the story is: when you make enough goals, *some* of them are bound to be accomplished.
